  • Instructors must be at least 18 years old, hold a current first aid certification and be highly recommended. If there is available space, special consideration will be given to placing H-B and C-3 members who demonstrate a high level of maturity and are well experienced in teaching.
  • Types of instruction requested are as varied as the clubs, centers, and regions making the requests! Mounted topics might include Rally Prep, Local Level Testing Prep, Dressage, Show Jumping, Games, Polocrosse, Eventing, etc. Unmounted topics are just as diverse.
  • The club/center/region will pay your travel expenses to and from the locality. They will also provide all your meals, housing and transportation to and from the airport/train/bus depot as well as from the instruction sites. You will be paid a salary according to the certification level that you have obtained. For a five day camp the salary is as follows:

A - $300, H-A- $275, B or H- $250,

H-B or C-3-$225

For additional days or camps/ clinics that are 3 days or less the salary is as follows:

A -$75 daily or $15 hour for partial day,

H-A - $70, B or H - $65, H-B or C-3 $60.

  • As a VI you could be asked to judge some type of competition or conduct a local level testing for your host club/center/region. In addition, your hosts may ask you for a written critique of your experience.
  • The club/center/region will provide in advance the type of instruction you will do, the groups you will teach and the kind of facilities where you will be teaching. Additionally, the club/center/region MUST provide at least one adult official to be present at all times while you are instructing. This adult is expected to be knowledgeable about the local emergency procedures, individual health problems, and the guidelines put out by the USPC Safety Committee. You should be prepared to help the adult in any emergency. You should be prepared to assist in any emergency. All participants must wear their medical cards when mounted or working around horses.
  • If you want to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to spend one or two weeks or weekends instructing, then complete the VI application. If you have the right qualifications then you will be "matched” with a club/center/region that seems to "fit.” You and the club/center/region will be notified of the match.” At this time both parties should be committed and will correspond with each other about the details. Please notice on the application that you may apply to work for any part of the summer or just weekends & vacations throughout the year. You must specify dates when you plan to be available.

Summer Preferred Deadline: Applications submitted by February 28. Priority will be given to those with earlier submissions. Those submitted after deadline will be accepted, but with very low priority. If application is incomplete at submission, it will be considered complete by the date of the last paperwork submitted.

Year Round Deadline: There is currently no deadline for those seeking weekend and vacation VI positions. We will keep those applications on file for when requests come to the VI Committee.
