Two Scholarships Awarded for  U.S. Eventing Association Instructor Certification Program Workshops

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY–Thanks to the generosity of the Brennan family, two recipients of scholarships from the Eleanor Brennan Memorial Fund received $500 checks from USPC this past week during the U.S. Eventing Association (USEA) ICP Instructors Assessment at Carriage Station Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. The two recipients are Scot Fernandez and Clare VanderWoude, both Pony Club graduate H-As. Scot is very active in the Midwest region teaching and conducting rating preps. He is also the region’s Regional Instruction Coordinator (RIC), a National Examiner, and a Chief Horse Management judge. Clare is currently a Joint District Commissioner of Black Hawk Pony Club in Wisconsin, conducts ratings in the surrounding regions, and helps with H-B and H-A preps.

According to USPC Instruction Director Connie Jehlik, "We are very excited to honor these two individuals with these scholarships as they both are actively involved with Pony Club in their areas. Their desire to develop and improve their teaching skills is a commendable task and because of the Eleanor Brennan Memorial Fund we were able to honor them for their efforts.”

In 2010, Pony Club Instructors or upper level members are eligible to receive scholarship assistance to attend ICP Certification Program Workshops or Assessments. Two scholarships are still available for the 2010 year. Please submit the scholarship application and reference forms to be considered. The application form is available on the USPC Web site, www.ponyclub.org under "Opportunities/Grants.” Please contact Connie Jehlik, USPC Instruction Director at instruction@ponyclub.org or 859-256-7669, if you have any further questions.

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. (USPC) was founded in 1954 as a nonprofit national youth organization to teach riding and horsemanship through a formal educational program. Many of the nation’s top equestrians, including our Olympic team members, have Pony Club roots. Members range in age from as young as 4 through age 25. Activities are English-riding based, and members ride both horses and ponies, depending on the size of the rider and the discipline in which s/he is competing. Pony Club competition is team competition, much like the Olympic Games, where members learn the importance of cooperation and teamwork. There are approximately 11,000 members in 600 clubs in 43 regions throughout the country.
