Pony Club Adds Western Riding Opportunities

April 17, 2014 (Lexington, KY) – Learn all about Western riding and good horse management skills in a safe and fun environment. The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. is pleased to announce that Western riding has been added as an educational track available at Clubs and Riding Centers around the country. USPC members can learn Western riding, while also receiving the horse management education and certifications that Pony Club is famous for.

Starting in 2012, The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. conducted a pilot of the Western program, based on earlier discussion and study. At the USPC Annual Meeting in January, 2014, the Board of Governors voted to include Western as an educational track with Standards of Proficiency up through the C-2 level. The emphasis of the Western track is on basic Western Riding, Trail and Reining. Similar to all Pony Club Certifications, the Western Standards establish a foundation of safe habits and knowledge of daily horse care, and focuses on acquiring the knowledge and skills related to care, ground handling, and riding independently with control and confidence in all phases of riding.

Riders are already participating in the Pony Club Western track, earning their Pony Club Certifications, and competing on a local, regional and soon, national level.

About Pony Club - The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. (Pony Club) was founded in 1954 as a nonprofit national youth organization to teach riding and horsemanship through a formal educational program. There are approximately 10,000 Pony Club members in over 600 clubs and riding centers throughout the country. Many of the nation’s top equestrians, including several of our Olympic team members, business professionals, government leaders and career military officers, have roots in Pony Club. Traditional members range in age from as young as 4 through age 25. Pony Club also offers educational opportunities to over 500 adult members in its Horsemasters Program. www.ponyclub.org.
