The Pony Club Pledge:

As a member of the United States Pony Clubs, I stand for the best in sportsmanship as well as in horsemanship. I shall compete for the enjoyment of the game well played and take winning or losing in stride, remembering that without good manners and good temper, sport loses its cause for being.
I shall endeavor to maintain the best tradition of the ancient and noble skill of horsemanship, always treating my horse with consideration due a partner.

What is Pony Club?

What will I learn in Pony Club?

So Much! You will learn very specific riding skills and learn how to take care of horses and ponies. As you learn you will earn certificates to show your progress in the Pony Club program. Certificates may be earned in horse managment, riding on the flat, and jumping.

Not only will you learn about the proper care of horses and strong riding skills, you will learn to be responsible for taking care of a horse, work as part of team, communicate the knowledge you have gain, and becoming aware of the community around you.

Meetings As a Pony Club member you meet with other members for Pony Club meetings. These meeting may be mounted riding lessons, or unmounted horse managment lessons, or a combination of both!
Certificate Testings The thing you learn at the Pony Club meetings will prepare you for earning a certificates in horse managment and riding skills.  To earn the certificate, you will talk with an Examiner about what you have learned about taking care of horses and ride to demostrate the skills you have developed in the saddle.  You won't be competing against anyone, but the Examiner will be evaluating if you have meet the Standards for the certificate you are looking to earn.
Compete Pony Club competitions are called "rallies."  Unlike a horse show, at a rally you will be competing with a team of members!  Teams are usually made up of 3 to 4 riders and 1 Stable Manager, typically coming from the same club or center.  The team will be responsible for their ponies/horses during the competition.  No parents, coaches or trainers allowed in the barn!!  Horse Managment Judges will be on hand to answer questions, to watch over the care of the mounts, do safety checks before member mount, and will be judging the teams on their horse managment skills.  Placings are given for the overall score, which includes riding scores and Horse management scores, and a seperate set of ribbons are awarded for the horse managements skills alone.
