Horse Managment Seminar at Championships
Thursday, March 29, 2012
A Horse Management Seminar will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during Championships East 2012, designed for adults attending championships who would like to use this opportunity to expand their Horse Management knowledge through an active, hands-on seminar format that will get them into the barns during competition. Participants will be able to observe and participate in all facets of USPC Horse Management judging, including equipment checks, stable checks, safety checks, and turnout inspections. No prior experience is necessary, only a desire to learn and expand your knowledge base. There will truly be something for everyone: parents, club/center leaders, instructors, HMOs, RICs, RSs, Horsemasters, and active Pony Club members who are C-3 and up over 18 years of age. We will learn with and from each other.
Sign up if you are someone who would like to investigate becoming an Assistant Horse Management Judge at USPC competitions or if you are already involved in AHMJ work and would like to become a more effective teacher. Sign up if you are involved in teaching Horse Management skills at the club or the regional level and would like new ideas and more depth of knowledge to take back home to your own HM instructional programs. Sign up if your job description includes preparing Pony Club members for rally competitions and you want to see and hear and experience firsthand just exactly what goes on in the barns, as some of the best Chief Horse Management Judges in the country guide, teach, and evaluate horse care through the different levels. Sign up as a parent and leave this Championship competition confident that you know even more about how to best support and prepare your Pony Club member for a happy, successful PC experience.
Participants are required to wear appropriate attire and footwear for work in the barns and around horses and to bring their own current copy of the Horse Management Handbook and Rules for Rally, available for download on the Rulebook page (under "Publications") or from the USPC Bookstore. Also bring a notepad, pen or pencil, sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, water bottle, and a good hat!
Dates of Seminar: Thursday, July 26, 1-4 p.m. Friday, July 27 and Saturday July 28, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attending this seminar will not keep participants from taking time to watch Pony Club members ride. The format will be flexible.
