Pony Club Reconnects at the 2011 Alltech National Horse Show

Lexington, KY, November 9, 2011— The National Horse Show (NHS) moved from New York to Lexington, KY this year giving Pony Club a fantastic opportunity right in their own backyard. Pony Club reconnected with many hunter jumper riders, parents, and trainers who had their start in Pony Club. Over the first two days interactive educational activities included grooming, horse colors and markings, and successful course negotiations were available to over 3200 school kids who visited the educational area at the show. Then the weekend continued with 4500 families and friends on Saturday night for the Show Jumping Grand Prix and many more on Sunday for the ASPCA Maclay Equitation National Championships. "It was a busy week but it was very exciting for us to see how many hunter jumper riders, parents, and trainers actually had their start in Pony Club. Now with our new Hunter Seat Equitation Standards, we hope to see many of them come back to their roots,” said Mary Pierson, Communications Director for Pony Club.

"The United States Pony Clubs is thrilled to be a part of the new Alltech National Horse Show here at the Kentucky Horse Park.” stated Kevin Price, Pony Club’s CEO. "As the oldest equestrian education organization in the United States, Pony Club really enjoyed the opportunity to participate and provide educational programming at such a prestigious and historically recognized National Horse Show. We hope to be involved in future years.”

The National Horse Show provided an excellent opportunity for Pony Club to reconnect with many alumni who share their Pony Club memories. Some of the Pony Club graduate superstars of the NHS included Kent Farrington from St. James Pony Club, as well as brother and sister Charlie and Maggie Jayne, from Wayne Du-Page Hunt Pony Club, who all grew up in the Chicago area. Travelling farther yet was Sarah Tredennick from Platte Valley Pony Club in Colorado along with countless alumni from all corners of the country.
