North American Quiz Challenge

Lexington, KY, October 14, 2011—The 2011 North American Quiz Challenge hosted by Alberta Central Region of the Canadian Pony Club was held in Calgary October 7-10. The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. was invited to send one team of top placing senior C-level members from last summer’s Championships to Canada to compete in a battle of equine knowledge. This year’s North American Quiz Challenge was a memorable one for the American team as they came away victorious against our northern neighbors.

The winning team representing The United States Pony Clubs was comprised of scholars Breanna Kaho, an H-B member from Run o’ the Mill Pony Club in Lakeshore Region; Katherine Dorminey, a C-2 member from Pennyrile Pony Club in MidSouth Region; Rachel Ehlers an H-B member from Hybid Farm Pony Club Riding Center in Central New England Region; and Chiara Salati, a C-1 member of Brumbies Pony Club in New York/Upper Connecticut Region. Chaperone Nancy MacIsaac from the Southwest Region accompanied the team during their travels.

Quiz is a non-riding team competition where Pony Club members show their knowledge and skills of topics related to the Pony Club Standards of Proficiency, including Horse Management expertise, Rally competition rules, knowledge of horse sports (Dressage, Eventing, Games, Polocrosse, Show Jumping and Tetrathlon) and also knowledge of additional resource activities (Foxhunting, Polo, Vaulting, and Distance Riding), and Safety.

About Pony Club— The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. (USPC) was founded in 1954 as a nonprofit national youth organization to teach riding and horsemanship through a formal educational program.
