Pony Club Earns Bragging Rights at USEF Pony Finals

Lexington, KY, August 11, 2011—Pony Club team member Nicole Kehrli and her 10 year old pony jumper partner Northwind's Opus finished Pony Finals in an impressive 6th place overall. Nicole entered the individual championships round in the lead but a little bad luck in the form of Mother Nature came with her. Severe thunderstorms raged outside, and the skies opened up sending high winds, horizontal rain and thunder claps through the Horse Park's covered arena. As trees fell outside, Nicole had two rails down on course, which dropped her back to 6th place. Coach Linda Allen kept the ribbon outcome in perspective, "It's always a rewarding week to work with the Pony Club team. Returnees, such as Nicole Kehrli, transform from an uptight first-timer into a capable and confident rider who can ride the sophisticated courses here with skill.” Nicole is one of three returning members on the four person Pony Club team to help lead the team to a 5th place finish on Friday night's Team Competition.

The four-member Pony Club team included: Nicole Kehrli on Northwind's Opus (C-3 member), Lauren Attanasio on Rascal (C-2 member), and Alyssa Kurtz on Captain (C-2 member) all from Pickering Hunt Pony Club in PA, and Merrill Harvey on Pandamonium (D-3 member) from Meadow Brook Hounds Pony Club in NY. Christine Lonsdale on Winds of Magic is a C-2 member of Elkridge-Harford Pony Club in MD represented the USEF Zone 3.
