Modern Pentathlon World Cup Names Pony Club Past and Present Members to 2011 Team

LEXINGTON, KY: The United States Pony Clubs, Inc., is proud to announce that 11 members of the Modern Pentathlon World Cup Team for 2011 are current or past members of Pony Club. Modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport comprised of five disciplines: épée(fencing), swimming, equestrian show jumping, and a combined run/shoot event. Pony Club offers members a great start into this sport through Tetrathlon, a Pony Club discipline offering show jumping, running, swimming and shooting.

The beautiful desert communities of Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs in California, will be host for the Modern Pentathlon World Cup in 2011. The event will test Pentathletes in speed,endurance, skill, focus and strategy February 24-27, 2011.

Four members of the World Cup Team are current Pony Club members: Andrew Tapia, a D-2 from Redwoods Pony Club, Sierra Pacific Region, Rosalie Purvis, an H-B member from Hinkston Valley Pony Club, Midwest Region, Marshall Stymer, D-3 member from Mary’s Peak Pony Club, Oregon Region, and Christine McGrath, an H-A member from Conestoga Pony Club, Delmarva Region. The following Pony Club graduates will also represent The United States at the Pentathlon World Cup: McKenzie West of Pine Ridge Pony Club, Rocky Mountain Region, Wayne Miller of Palouse Hills Pony Club, Inland Empire Region, Sam Sacksen, and Rachel Sacksen both of Rolling Rock Pony Club, Tri-State Region, Will Brady of Livingston Hunt Pony Club, Great Lakes Region, Margaux Isaksen of Boston Mountain Pony Club, Cimarron Region, and Ashley Ridge of Fresno Pony Club, Middle California Region.

"Pony Club is very proud to help set the groundwork for these world class athletes” said Wayne Quarles, Activities Director for the United States Pony Clubs. "I have been fortunate enough to have met and worked with many of the team members and they are excellent representatives for Pony Club, Modern Pentathlon, and the United States.”

Pony Club is a non-profit organization that teaches horsemanship and the care of the horse to young people through the age of 25. Pony Club is a worldwide educational organization that originated in Great Britain in 1928. Pony Club was founded as a non-profit national youth horsemanship organization in February, 1954. Today, there are over 600 Pony Clubs and Centers nationwide – including clubs in Alaska and Hawaii – with over 11,000 members.
