August 9, 2013 (Lexington, KY) – The United States Pony
Clubs, Inc. is proud to announce the creation of the Margo Leithead
Cornerstone Award for Excellence in Horse Management. This prestigious
award recognizes teams that best demonstrate excellence in Horse
Management during competition. It includes all disciplines during Pony
Club Championships events held each year, starting in 2014.
The award is named for Margo Leithead, who has been a driving force in
her many years of her involvement with Pony Club. She was a founding
member of Greenwich Pony Club in Connecticut and Keystone Pony Club in
Pennsylvania. At the local level, she did everything from Chief HM
judge, rally organizer, coach, instructor, examiner, and club treasurer.
Margo then went on to serve as Regional Supervisor of the Metropolitan
Region from 1970-1974, and as Vice RS of the Eastern Pennsylvania Region
from 1987-1996. She served on the National Advisory and Nominating
Committees and was the Chair in 1996. She was Vice President of Regional
Administration from 1998-2000, and First VP and Annual Meeting Chair
from 2001-2002. From 2003-2009 Margo attended and presented at 18 of the
23 USPC Leaders Camps held throughout the country. Her favorite
presentation was on Therapeutic Communication. Margo ultimately served
as USPC President from 2004-2006.
